WHO (2006): Adolescent Nutrition. A Review of the Situation in Selected South-
East Asian Countries.
This review is compiled by WHO and compared and analysed data from 10 Asian countries, namely
Bangladesh, Bhutan, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The analysis focuses on the nutritional status of adolescents in the respective countries, their
nutritional needs and issues, such as the prevalence of thinness and stunting, obesity, anaemia,
vitamin A deficiency and pregnancy. Finally, the review suggests guiding principles and possible
actions at the country level to improve adolescent nutrition.
